Musical Director - Wayne "Sandy" Glass

Wayne “Sandy” Glass has enjoyed a varied career as a performer and educator. Comfortable as musician, actor, conductor and academic, he has worked in the U.S., Canada, The Netherlands and Australia. After a musical upbringing devoted to the clarinet, his voice was discovered during a high-school musical theatre audition, and at the age of fifteen he pursued advanced vocal studies, culminating in graduation with a degree summa cum laude in vocal performance from the University of Arkansas, his home state. Awarded a Fulbright scholarship at the age of 23, he traveled to Amsterdam to study early vocal performance practice with the Dutch baritone, Max van Egmond, while at the same time completing a research project on the unpublished 17th–century songs of Lutheran pastor, Johann Rist. In The Netherlands, Dr. Glass gained considerable performing experience as a soloist and ensemble artist, appearing regularly with the highly acclaimed Netherlands Chamber Choir. In North America, his performances have included those with the Vancouver Cantata Singers, Washington Bach Consort, Hesperus, Folger Consort, Opera Lafayette, Santa Fe Desert Chorale and Tucson Chamber Artists. Upon receiving a doctorate in choral conducting from the University of Arizona, he relocated to Australia, where his conducting work has included directing the Sydney University Musical Society, Savoy Arts Company and assisting with the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Choir. He currently lives in Sydney with his partner, their son and a mixed quartet of Schnauzers and Scottish Folds.
