The Choir

Song and community

We are a passionate chamber choir based in Sydney, dedicated to delivering performances of beautiful choral music.

Formed in the early 1990s by a group of enthusiastic singers from larger choirs, we love exploring the acapella repertoire, especially sacred choral music. Our programs range from larger scale classical works to music by contemporary composers from many traditions. Over three concerts each year, we explore and share uplifting (and sometimes surprising!) music from Australia and the world.

Our choir is built on a strong sense of community. We’re a group of people who have enjoyed singing throughout our lives, with many of us starting in school, university or church choirs. We bring together a rich mix of backgrounds: we come from multiple countries and work or study in a range of areas. What unites us is a commitment to musical excellence and our shared joy of making music together. Every week, we gather not just to sing, but to connect, laugh and build lasting friendships.

Thinking of joining us?
New members are always welcome. If you’re thinking of joining us, we’d love you to get in touch. It helps if you can read music, and being able to sight-sing is a bonus, but most importantly, we’re looking for people who love to sing and want to be part of something special. If you’re interested, we invite you to come along for a test sing. It’s a chance to see if our choir is going to be right for you, and how you might fit in with us.

Choir practice is 7.15 pm on Tuesdays at St Benedict’s Catholic Church, Abercrombie St, Chippendale.
