The music we sing

One of the great joys of singing in our choir is the sense of discovery that comes with each new program.

While we love to revisit familiar works from our repertoire that feel like old friends, we also embrace the challenge of new pieces that stretch us musically and help us grow as singers.

Our repertoire spans centuries, from the Middle Ages to contemporary compositions, and includes sacred and secular music in many languages and styles. We sing everything from motets and anthems to major works like Fauré’s Requiem, Rachmaninoff’s Vespers and Bernstein’s Chichester Psalms. Most of our performances are a cappella, although almost every year at least one program includes piano, organ or a small instrumental ensemble.

A highlight of our musical life is the Women Composers Development Program, which gives us the opportunity to premiere works by some of Australia’s most exciting and innovative female composers. It’s a privilege to bring new music to life and be part of its first performance.
